Bridge House
“Bridge House has given me stability, serenity, happiness and a place to call home.” -- M.V, age 20
Supportive housing is key to success...
Bridge House provides supportive housing for young adults who have progressed beyond the need for 24/7 supervision and are ready to take the next step toward independence. Safe, affordable long-term housing helps them build on their successes and work toward completing college or vocational school, finding full-time employment and becoming part of the community.
When older teens are released by the child welfare system, they usually don’t have the skills, resources or support network to live on their own.
Bridge House opened in late 2010 with three tenants living in subsidized apartments in Somerville, NJ, allowing for easy contact with the Somerset Home staff and convenient to shopping, jobs and transportation. Two other tenants share a small house on property the agency purchased in Bridgewater.
Filling a growing need...
The need continues to grow, and Somerset Home is expanding its plans to provide supportive housing for homeless young adults.
The agency recently received zoning board approval for a 10-unit building of studio apartments, common areas and laundry facilities on its property in Bridgewater. A capital campaign is under way to raise funds for construction, equipment and furnishings.
